An Alexandra man was flown to Dunedin Hospital with dog bite injuries after he was attacked by a staffordshire bull terrier during a scuffle with another Alexandra man yesterday afternoon.
Senior constable John Clark, of Alexandra, said the two men, aged in their 20s, become involved in a fight and the man suffered injuries to his foot after he was bitten by the dog.
It was unknown if the dog had been commanded to attack, Mr Clark said.
An ambulance was called to a Clutha St house about 3pm and transferred the man to Dunstan Hospital before he was flown to Dunedin. The dog was seized by dog control officers.
Police were unable to talk to the victim yesterday and investigations were continuing.
