Festive cheer on the plates

Ascot Park Hotel executive chef Simon Henry prepares to roll out the Christmas cheer for 450 Invercargill senior citizens last night.

The first of two Invercargill Licensing Trust-hosted festive evenings for seniors was held at Ascot Park Hotel last night.

Guests, who had to be 70 or older, were welcomed by Ascot Park Hotel staff and waited on by ILT board members and their families at the Invercargill Licensing Trust Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner.

The free three-course meal included ham, turkey with all the trimmings, and entertainment.

Hotel executive manager Peter Ridsdale said the Christmas dinner was an age-old institution well loved by Invercargill's senior citizens.

Friends Di Stephens, Elza Stenton and Hazel Rodan, all of Invercargill, said it was a great time to catch up with old friends and enjoy the food and entertainment.
