Brides and grooms from outside the Queenstown Lakes District now face much higher costs to get married at the popular Lake Hayes pavilion.
The fee for ratepayers will remain at $1300 (including GST), but out-of-towners will pay $1720 for a three-day hire (Friday to Sunday). Similar-sized 100-person venues charge between $1500 to $3100 (excluding GST) per day.
The Queenstown Lakes District Council's community services committee adopted a proposal today to increase the fees charged after a recommendation by community services manager Paul Wilson.
In a report, Mr Wilson says says the pavilion is fully booked for the wedding season for September to May with more than two-thirds f the wedding hires coming form outside the district, the majority form Invercargill and Dunedin.
