Southland's countryside will act as an extra large poker table during a charity bike ride with a twist today.

At least 100 people are expected to take to their motorcycles for the 9th annual Dilligaf Social Club poker run.

Bikers would ride 300 kilometres around Southland on a mystery route, collecting cards along the way to make up a poker hand, social club poker run committee member David Valli said.

The intrigue and gambling was all for a good cause, with proceeds from the event being donated to Hospice Southland.

"Some people feel a bit more passionate about it. The hospice is always looking for funding to keep the service going."

A raffle would also be held to help raise money.

Just like the tour route, the big raffle prize was also shrouded in mystery, but Mr Valli promised it would be worth the wait.

"I think someone would be quite pleased to get it, especially with Christmas coming up."

The only real wildcard was the weather, but he hoped the forecast bad spell would clear up in time for the event. "It's supposed to pack up, but it might come right by Saturday with a bit of luck."

Hospice Southland promotions manager Renee Goldup said the hospice was very grateful the motorcycle club had chosen to support them.

Registration for the poker run opens at 9am on Saturday and costs $30.

The price includes a light lunch and a badge.
