Man attacked in Wanaka
JESSICA MADDOCK IN WANAKA
Wanaka police are calling for witnesses to an assault involving a group of people in a bar late on Saturday night.
Senior Sergeant Allan Grindell said there appeared to have been a "bit of banter" between two groups at the back of the Opium bar in Ardmore St.
A 26-year-old Wanaka man laid a complaint with the police yesterday, saying he was "blind-sided by a hit to the head" some time between 11pm and 2am.
Mr Grindell said the man seemed to have been hit on the top of his head and the side of his face more than once. His injuries have been checked by a doctor.
There were several people involved. The police have not identified any of the offenders at this stage, but they would be checking CCTV footage, Mr Grindell said.
