Wendy Bates and Caitlin McWhirter, 7, secured a prime spot shortly before last night's rescheduled Carols By Candlelight concert in Queens Park, Invercargill.

A crowd of more than 1000 people attended the concert, held around the park's band rotunda and run by the Invercargill YMCA.

The concert would have been held on Monday but was postponed due to bad weather.

For Caitlin it was her first time at the event. Mrs Bates, her grandmother, had brought her along.

"It's great, we love coming," Mrs Bates said.

Silent Night was her favourite carol.

Genuine and electric candles, to be lit when darkness descended, were available on the way in to the concert.
