Ute tangles with big unit

MANGLED: Two people were taken to hospital after a ute, towing a hay tedder, ran into the back of a truck-and-trailer unit.

Two people were injured when a ute pulling a hay tedder crashed into the rear of a fully loaded truck and trailer near Wallacetown yesterday.

The crash happened on Waimatuku Bush Rd, Taramoa.

Sergeant Greg Smith, of Winton, said the crash was on a straight gravel road. The truck driver was not injured but the two people in the ute were taken to Southland Hospital.

The cause of the crash was still being investigated.

A St John spokeswoman confirmed two patients were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A fire communications spokesman said three fire engines, one each from Wallacetown, Thornbury and Invercargill, attended the scene about 11.30am.

Meanwhile, a man was taken to Gore hospital after he rolled his quad-bike near the Lumsden-Riversdale highway yesterday.

A St John spokeswoman said the man suffered a knee injury.
