A woman was taken to Balclutha Hospital after emergency services were called to a crash on the Owaka highway near the Finegand township road yesterday afternoon.

A fire communications spokesperson said it was initially believed a person was trapped inside the car but when a fire crew from Balclutha arrived at the scene, no-one was trapped.

A helicopter on standby was stood down, and the woman was treated at the scene by St John.

The fire crew helped clean up the crash site.

A St John spokeswoman said the woman suffered cuts to her head.
