A police Search and Rescue team were called to retrieve a motorcyclist who went over a cliff in Marks Bay in the Catlins about 8.00 tonight.
Three brigades from Tokanui, Papatowai and Owaka were called to the remote location, but were unable to get to the motorcyclist.
A police spokesman said there were significant issues with getting to the patient and a Dunedin rescue helicopter had been called in.
It was not known if the SAR team had reached the patient by 10 pm or what the patient's condition was.
