Husband's crash hits pop star's schedule
A man injured in a motorcycle accident near Te Anau this month is the husband of a Malaysian pop princess who cancelled a concert in Jakarta to fly to New Zealand to be by his side, Asian media have reported.
Datuk Seri Khalid Muhammad Jiwa - also known as Datuk K - is a 53-year-old entrepreneur and husband of singer Datuk Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin, 33.
The pair were named the third most powerful celebrity couple by Asia's ENews in 2010.
The Southland Times reported a Malaysian man had serious injuries following a motorcycle crash on December 13 at Boyd Creek, near Te Anau Downs, while riding his Harley Davidson with friends.
The Malaysian Insider reported that Tarudin tweeted an apology to her fans in Indonesia for having to cancel her Jakarta concert that same evening as a result of her husband's accident.
The New Straits Times reported that she had made arrangements to fly to New Zealand to be with her husband, who had broken his shoulder and had leg and hand injuries and had undergone surgery.
The Star Online reported her tweet last Wednesday which said her husband's six-hour surgery had been successful.
Southland Hospital staff said on Tuesday Datuk Seri Khalid Muhammad Jiwa was "good and stable" in Invercargill.
The shift manager said she was unable to say if Tarudin was with her husband at the hospital.
