The Alexandra Rotary Club's annual book sale, in its 25th year, has started in Alexandra today.

About 25,000 books, weighing in between 40 and 50 tonnes, have been donated to this year's sale.

Alexandra Rotary Club member Ken Cook, of Alexandra, said proceeds from the sale will go towards charitable causes in the area.

About $20,000 expected to be raised in the sale, which ends on Sunday.

Book lovers of every category were urged to go allow to the Alexandra Community Centre and grab themselves a bargain, Mr Cook said.
