Driver flees scene
TERRI RUSSELL IN GORE
A driver and passenger whose car smashed in to a power pole in Gore last night fled from the scene - an unusual act that could mean they have something to hide, say police.
Senior Sergeant Richard McPhail, of Gore, said a 1996 Toyota Camry carrying three people ran in to a power pole on the corner of Oxford and Hamilton streets at about 10.20pm last night.
The driver and a passenger ran from the vehicle but a 25 year-old Gore female stayed in the car where she was questioned by police and later taken to Gore Hospital for medical treatment, he said.
Police said the woman appeared to be intoxicated and in shock.
Neither the driver or passenger have been located since they fled from the scene, Mr McPhail said.
The power pole was damaged but power supplies were not affected and the car, which received frontal damage, has been stored at a car yard, he said.
