A huge thunderstorm in Wanaka last night cleared but the weather remains changeable at today's annual rodeo near Albert Town.
It is the Wanaka Rodeo Club's 50th event and there are 210 entries in the seven categories, which include bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling, rope and tie, second division and open bareback, saddle bronc and team roping.
Many of the competitors, some of whom are from the North Island, have been taking part in a series of rodeos throughout the south, with events at Miller's Flat, Waimate, Omarama, Te Anau, Wanaka and Rangiora during the Christmas and New Year period.
The next southern rodeos will be held at Lawrence (February 2), Matuara (February 9) and Southland (February 10).
The national finals will be held at Egmont-Wanganui on April 5 and 6.
