Police have been alerted to a missing hunter in the Te Anau area but will wait until midday tomorrow to launch any official search.
A 57-year-old man from Richmond was reported missing after being a day overdue from a hunting trip.
Police said the man could be located in a wide area and did not leave any exact intentions.
Constable James Ure, of Te Anau, said after speaking with the man's family, police along with the family were happy to give the experienced hunter until tomorrow before initiating a search.
''The family described the man as a pretty relaxed sort of bloke who may have decided to change his plans,'' Mr Ure said.
The man was in a small boat and he could be waiting for the weather to settle before crossing any water, he said.
