Scrub fire near Nokomai
Firefighters from across Southland are battling a vegetation fire in a gully near Nokomai.
Crews from Athol, Lumsden, Balfour, Dipton, Otautau, Hedgehope and Invercargill were travelling to the fire, which started about 4.15 this afternoon, a fire service spokesperson said.
Four helicopters had been requested by the rural fire officer to help combat the blaze, which had consumed 2ha and was spreading quickly, he said.
It is not known at this stage how the fire started.
