Firefighters are continuing to battle a vegetation fire in the Castledown forestry area.
Six helicopters, three diggers and crews from Athol, Lumsden, Balfour, Dipton, Otautau, Hedgehope and Invercargill are at the blaze, which was reported about 4.15pm.
Southern Rural Firefighters were also working alongside the fire service crew, who were first to respond.
At 7pm, rural firefighters spokeswoman Sally Chesterfield said the blaze was 10-12ha and the cause of the fire was unknown.
Crews were focusing on containing the fire and preventing it from spreading into surrounding pine plantations.
Principal rural fire officer Mike Grant said the fire had the potential to be difficult to control if it wasn’t contained tonight as the weather conditions tomorrow were unfavourable.
