Wanaka police are investigating a spate of thefts from cars and boats on Saturday night.
Senior Sergeant Allan Grindell said police had received nine complaints of thefts, mostly in the Beacon Point Rd area, overnight on Saturday. Thefts were reported in Lismore St, Beaumont St, Westview Rd, Sunnyside Ln, and Matai Rd. There were also thefts reported from Stonebrook Dr in Meadowstone and Brownston St.
"The offenders have used various methods to gain entry to the vehicles, windows have been smashed, doors and locks forced and one vehicle was unlocked," Mr Grindell said.
Stolen property included golf clubs, a chainsaw, cash, sun glasses, clothing, CDs and alcohol. Two petrol canisters were also reported stolen from boats.
"This is a timely reminder to Wanaka people to take a few simple precautions. Obviously lock your vehicles, remove loose items of property, park off the street if you can. If not park near lighting or where there is excellent natural surveillance," he said.
Wanaka police would like to hear from anyone with any information about the thefts.
