In an article on February 1, several councillors questioned whether Asha Dutt may have breached confidentiality in a post she made on Facebook.

The councillors interpreted her post as a reference to the reappointment of Richard King as Invercargill City Council chief executive - during a period in which councillors had been asked not to release that news.

Ms Dutt declined to comment for the article, but has since informed The Southland Times that she was not told of any restriction relating to the reappointment news before she posted her comment.

The Times has no reason to disbelieve Miss Dutt and in those circumstances accepts her assurance that she has committed no breach of confidence or exposed the council to any potential liability.
