Out-of-control car in near miss
A 37-year-old Wyndham woman was taken to Southland Hospital with moderate injuries after her car collided with a bridge barrier near Mataura yesterday.
Constable Rob Camden, of Wyndham, said the woman was travelling northbound in Wyndham Rd when she lost control of her vehicle on the Mimihau Stream bridge about 11.10am.
The car drifted sideways into the opposite lane, and collided with the bridge barrier before narrowly missing a southbound vehicle, he said.
He was unsure why the woman lost control of her vehicle and investigations were continuing.
St John South Island Region communications adviser said the injured woman was taken to Southland Hospital with moderate injuries including possible shoulder injuries.
Southern Fire Communications shift manager Andrew Norris said fire crews from Wyndham and Gore were called to the crash, but the Gore brigade was not needed and turned back.
