Searchers find body of missing contractor
A 61-year-old agricultural spray contract worker may have been dead for 24 hours before being found near the Mount Allan forest area yesterday.
Police launched a search and rescue operation after the family of the contractor reported he had failed to return home the previous night.
The man's name has not yet been released.
Acting senior sergeant Nathan White, of Dunedin, said the man was dead when searchers found him and it appeared he may have died the previous day.
The man, who had been contracted to spray around pylons on a Taieri property in the Mount Allan forest area, was found near his overturned vehicle.
Police did have some ideas about how the man died but did not want to speculate until the investigation had been completed, Mr White said.
