Fire crews have been called to a digger on fire in a commercial forest near the Southland town of Wyndham.
Southland principal rural fire officer Mike Grant said he did not have all the details but he believed several crews from Wyndham had been deployed to the forest.
It appeared the digger was in a location that could not be accessed by the fire appliances with fire crews needing to get to the site on foot.
At this stage no one appeared to be injured in the fire and it appeared the fire was under control, Mr Grant said.
