Gore police have returned to the scene of a tractor crash on steep farm terrain near Gore last night.
A 62-year-old man was found dead at the scene in Mountain Rd, Diamond Peak, at 7.40pm last night.
Detective Sergeant Greg Baird, of Gore, said it appeared that the tractor and trailer were involved in the baling of the paddock.
Police said the man had been working alone.
The crash was attended by Gore police, ambulance and fire, he said.
Police would be conducting a scene examination today and speaking to possible witnesses.
The matter has to be referred to the coroner, he said.
A Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment spokesman confirmed preliminary inquiries were being made today into the man's death.
The man's name has not been released by police.
