Expensive filly for southerners
Roxburgh Trotting Club president Bill Bain and Maitland dairy farmer Doug Gollan paid $95,000 for a filly at the Australasian Classic Yearling Sale in Auckland yesterday.
The filly was one of six that Bain, Gollan and their Roxburgh trainer Geoff Knight were interested in.
''She walked out and caught our eye ... We said, 'This is the one','' Knight said last night.
''It [the price] was a little over what we thought we would have to pay but when you buy quality, you have to pay for it.''
Champion trainer Mark Purdon, of Christchurch, was the underbidder of the filly, by Bettor's Delight from Fight Fire With Fire (seven wins).
