Monster auction raises $70,000 for Dunstan
BROOKE GARDINER IN QUEENSTOWN
The monster auction to raise funds for the suite that will house Dunstan Hospital's $1 million CT scanner hauled in $75,000 on Saturday.
Three separate charity auctions were held in Cromwell, Alexandra and Wanaka with a variety of goods under the hammer including cars, furniture and artwork.
CT Scanner Suite Appeal committee member Karin Bowen said she was delighted with the cash raised although it was not quite as much as they'd hoped.
Items sold in Cromwell raised about $20,000 for the appeal and Alexandra banked about $22,000. The final tally from the Wanaka auction was expected to be between $30,000-$40,000.
The committee still had to raise another $75,000 to cover the cost of the $250,000 suite which will be lead-lined and include a reception and waiting area.
The Friends of Dunstan had already committed $100,000 to the project, she said.
