Superstars descended at SIT today during O Week celebrations.

Celine Dion, Michael Jackson and Ed Sheeran made an appearance - well their songs did as students belted our favourite tunes for the SIT's Got Talent Competition today.

Competitor Rajiv Mammari, 26, followed in the footsteps of his hero Michael Jackson, performing a crowd-pleasing rendition of ''Man in the Mirror'' while wearing a Jackson t-shirt.

Mr Mammari made it through to the finals of the contest, which will be held on Friday, but said he was initially a bit nervous about singing in front of his peers.

''I was a little thirsty. I wanted a little water but the song started.''

Heats of SIT's Got Talent continue tomorrow.

Students were also entertained with sport events and budding chefs tried their hands at cooking mussel patties.

The game of Fast Five, featured members of the Southern Steel and Southland Stags, as well as SIT players.

Those lining up for free sausages from the BBQ nearby had to dive for cover as the ball flew out of the chalk-drawn court.

O-Week events continue tomorrow, with the Great Invercargill Landmark Race taking students across the city in quest of prizes.
