Open day to thank community
Bluff Maritime Museum marks 20 yearsLOUISE BERWICK
You'll be able to step back in time when the Bluff Maritime Museum opens its doors for free on Saturday.
The Foreshore Rd museum celebrated its 20th birthday in November and the open day will be the final part of the celebrations.
Bluff Maritime Museum chairperson Jan Mitchell said it was a chance for the museum and its trustees to say "thank you" to the community for their ongoing support.
"Our museum relies on the public goodwill and we've had so many donations of things, in all sorts of ways."
She said the community had backed the attraction during the past two decades and holding an open day was a way to ensure it was accessible to everybody.
"I think we will be inundated with quite a few people," Mrs Mitchell said.
She hoped people from throughout Southland would "make a day of it" by visiting the other attractions in Bluff and enjoying what the museum had to offer.
"We're a child-friendly museum. It's going to be an absolutely fantastic day for families to have quality time together."
Bluff Maritime Museum Open Day: February 23, 1pm-5pm, 241 Foreshore Rd.
