Fernworth Primary School pupils have received their very own dictionaries.

The Rotary Club of Invercargill North donated and presented 55 children in Year 4 with a copy of the Usborne Illustrated Dictionary as part of Rotary's Literacy Awareness Month, recognised every March.

Rotary has donated dictionaries to every Year 4 pupil in Southland for the past five years.

Nicole McLiskey, a teacher at Fernworth said the dictionaries became a great learning tool in the classroom and the children loved them.

Along with sponsors Community Trust of Southland, CRT and Mainfreight, Rotary will donate about 1600 dictionaries to throughout Southland during the next fortnight.

Community Trust of Southland CEO John Prendergast said the annual dictionary donation was one of Rotary's best community projects and he hoped it would continue.
