Southland District Council's Around the Mountains cycle trail has been given the green light by the government after months of delays.
A funding agreement, worth $4 million, between Nga Haerenga, the New Zealand Cycle Trail, and the Southland District Council was announced yesterday, which means construction of the trail can now start.
It was originally expected to start before Christmas last year.
Council chief executive Dave Adamson said it was good to finally have funding sorted and the council would now start looking for contractors to do the work.
