The playwrights behind the Southland-based play A Cry Too Far From Heaven are thrilled with their nomination in the Best Theatre category for the New Zealand Fringe Awards in Wellington on Sunday.
Invercargill actor and playwright Jade Gillies was also nominated for two awards - Best Newcomer and Stand-out Performer.
Fellow playwrights Angela Newell and Lizzie Dawson collaborated with Gillies on the production about Winton baby farmer Minnie Dean and World War I deserter Victor Spencer, of Bluff.
The play now features Invercargill actor Hamish McGregor as ''Lewis'' the narrator.
Ms Newell said though they didn't win an award, being nominated in a field of 100 was ''pretty cool''.
A Cry Too Far From Heaven will be performed at Repertory House this Saturday, March 16 at 4pm and 7.30pm.
