Clamour for design award tickets
About 550 tickets sold is 'huge for us'BRIDGET RAILTON
The Hokonui Fashion Design Awards Strictly Design evening was a fashionable affair last night with hundreds of people clamouring to see this year's designs.
Lines formed at the Gore Town and Country Club well before the 7pm opening time for the first event of the 25th Hokonui Fashion Design Awards.
Convener Heather Paterson said ticket sales for this year's Friday night show exceeded anything they'd seen in the past.
"Originally we'd get 200-300 tickets sold (for the Friday night show) but I heard earlier this week we'd had about 550," she said.
"This is huge for us."
The Friday night Strictly Design show is different from the sold-out Saturday night awards as it gave people an opportunity to see the garments in a totally different show, she said.
"The designers spend months and months working on their garments, for them to see them on the catwalk with the models done up is just fantastic for them."
The winners of each category, will be announced tonight.
