How sweet it is ...
SPCA cooks up a fundraising planNICCI MCDOUGALL
The Southland SPCA's sweetest fundraiser of the year will be held on Monday.
The SPCA Cupcake Day, a community-driven annual fundraiser, will occupy cupcake cooks across the country as they bake the delicious goods and sell them, with all proceeds going back to their local SPCAs.
Cupcake makers will sell the treats in Invercargill on Monday.
Southland SPCA chairwoman Rachel Hucklebridge said this was the fourth year the Southland SPCA had taken part in the fundraiser, which raised about $3000 last year.
Proceeds would go towards ongoing costs at the Southland SPCA, including food and power, Ms Hucklebridge said.
In a Southland first, individuals, schools, businesses and teams can enter a competition with the aim of making the most money.
The person and school to raise the most money will win an iPad. The business that claims the title will win a $200 work shout from the Speight's Ale House.
The event was a family fun activity, Ms Hucklebridge said.
"It's just a fun way to raise money ... most people like cupcakes."
The national SPCA team had also put together a special ''pupcakes'' recipe for dogs which includes dried apple pieces, honey and oats.
