A 25-year-old Alexandra man who assaulted police and tried to run away after being arrested for breaking into a house has been remanded in custody after appearing in the Dunedin District Court yesterday.
Police were called to a house in Centennial Ave about 10pm on Tuesday by an occupant of the house after the man broke in.
Police found the man at a nearby house.
As he was being arrested, he began to lash out and pushed an officer before running off.
A short chase ensued and police were able to catch him.
The man was charged with burglary, assaulting police and escaping custody.
