A 28-year-old man was found dead at a Winton business early yesterday.

Acting senior sergeant Dave McKenzie, of Invercargill, said the cause of death was unknown and an autopsy would take place today.

The man's identity could not be released by police yesterday because family members were being notified, he said.

The matter has been referred to the coroner.

No further details were available last night.
