The death of a 26 year-old man found in an Invercargill park today remains "unexplained".
Acting detective senior sergeant Mark McCloy, of Invercargill, said the man was found lying in the Otepuni Gardens, central Invercargill, at 10.15am.
A member of the public found the deceased male lying in the gardens, between Nith and Conon streets, he said.
Police were awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination and the "unexplained death" had been referred to the coroner for investigation, Mr McCloy said.
Police would not be releasing the identity of the man until all next of kin had been notified.The scene was cordoned off by police today and an investigation team assembled at the site.
Sergeant Deon McNaught, of Invercargill, said police were treating the death on the ''greater side of caution".
