Searchers looking for missing Canadian tourists Connor Hayes and Joanna Lam have recovered a woman's body from a West Coast beach.
Police believe the body is that of Lam, but that would not be confirmed until formal identification has been completed.
Searchers have not seen any sign of her companion.
The couple had not been seen since their rented campervan was hit by a slip in stormy conditions and plunged off the road into the Haast River more than a week ago.
The body was discovered about 2.30pm on the stretch of beach between Haast and Knights Point, very close to where the fuel tank from their vehicle was recovered earlier in the week.
Next of kin have been advised.
Wild weather on the West Coast had dramatically scaled down the search effort for the missing pair.
