Staff award puts iSite at the top of its league
Invercargill iSite has come out tops, being named the best iSite centre in New Zealand for staff professional development.
Invercargill iSite manager Ann-marie Francis said the centre, in the Southland Museum and Art Gallery, beat about 80 other iSites to win the Service IQ staff professional development award at a national conference last week.
The award recognises the New Zealand centre with the most qualified staff and a strong attitude towards professional development.
All staff at Invercargill iSite had completed or were enrolled in the National Certificate in Tourism (visitor information) and the National Certificate in Business (first line management).
The staff usually worked on their studies in their own time, outside work hours, Ms Francis said.
"It's a big commitment in terms of time ... [but] a visitor coming in can be quite confident that the person they're speaking to will know what they're talking about."
Winning the award was a total surprise, she said.
"I didn't know anything about it until I was sitting there at the awards dinner and our name was called out." Now it was a case of keeping up the good work to perform well again next year, she said.
