The Batch Cafe in Invercargill has won top honour at the Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence.
The cafe was named supreme winner at a ceremony in Queenstown last night.
A post on the cafe's Facebook page says staff were ''in shock'' at the win and tears had been flowing.
The cafe, which opened in 2011, also won the award for Excellence in Training and Staff Development and the award for Best Cafe.
It was one of three southern businesses recognised at the event, with Central Otago hotel Chatto Creek Tavern winning the Best Country Hotel title, and Ascot Park Hotel, in Invercargill, winning the award for Best Environmental, Sustainable and Ethical Practice.
Winners were announced in 16 categories, covering a vast geographic spread of hospitality businesses throughout New Zealand.
Entrants were judged over a six week period by a panel of independent industry professionals who assessed a range of commercial and operational criteria including staff training and human resources, customer service, marketing and promotional activities, and the demonstration of business growth.
