Random check leads to charge
A man subject to a random stop by police has been charged with possession of cannabis.
Senior Constable Chris Blackford, of Queenstown, said the 23-year-old was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis after he was stopped in Fernhill Rd at 11pm on Thursday.
Officers smelled cannabis in the car and discovered the drug during a search, he said.
A utensil was also discovered and police intended to summons the registered owner.
At 1.33am yesterday, two British men were arrested and charged with assault after an incident in a Shotover St bar.
One of the men was asked to leave, refused and was escorted from the bar. He allegedly used a bar stool to hit one of the bouncers over the head and another bouncer was grabbed from behind and put in a headlock.
Police were considering amending the charges, Mr Blackford said.
A 22-year-old Australian man was charged with assault after he allegedly shoved a bouncer outside Sky Bar in Camp St at 2am. He was ejected from the bar, left then returned and verbally abused door staff before the alleged assault.
A French man, 26, was stopped in Stanley St at 3am and allegedly blew 838mcg.
He is expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court on October 7.
