Invercargill City Council today presented awards to eight Southlanders in a civic ceremony.
Murray Burns, musician, composer and film score producer and Roger McLachlan, musician and song writer - were given Civic Theatre Artists' Court Performing Art Awards.
While Civic Honours Awards went to:
Retiring City Councillor former ILT Board Member, Salvation Army volunteer and champion of those on limited incomes, Thelma Buck; Southland Asthma Society stalwart Sylvia Gillies; Heritage champion, President of Anderson Park Art Gallery, and former board member of the Southland Museum and Art Gallery, Mick Hesselin; Sailing mentor, Former Chamber of Commerce President, Rotarian and President of the Kumagaya Friendship Association, Tom Sawyer; Cancer Society volunteer and Oncology Unit Hostess, Maureen Smith; and Rugby stalwart, Rotarian, Mason, President of Bowls Southland Executive Board, Deacon at First Church and Grey Power Committee Member Alastair Tait.
