A six-year-old child was hit by a car this afternoon in Esk St, Invercargill.
A St John communications spokeswoman said the child was hit after 1.30pm.
But the child did not need to be transported to hospital, the spokeswoman said.
Police closed off Esk St for about 30 minutes after the incident.
Two nearby shopkeepers, who did not witness the child being hit, said they say the driver leave the scene afterwards.
Invercargill police were not available for comment.
