A thief stole a wallet from a lodge in Queenstown and used a bank card to withdraw $800, police said yesterday.
Senior Constable Chris Blackford, of Queenstown, said police were advised the wallet was missing from Discovery Lodge at 4.45pm on Monday.
A bank card was used to withdraw money from an ATM in Shotover St and inquiries were continuing, he said.
Police were also investigating a group of Australian diners after a member of the party allegedly failed to pay their bill.
A group of eight adults and three teenagers were in the Waterfront Restaurant on Monday night.
They left without paying but told police they had pooled their money and given it to a member of the group to pay the $297.50 bill.
