Big southern interest in home scheme
Southern interest has been high in the Government's First Home scheme.
Invercargill real estate agent Debbie Jamieson has been responsible for selling the five houses with the First Home scheme, run by Housing New Zealand.
She says the scheme has left her phone ringing non-stop with enquiries from first-home buyers.
Housing New Zealand's First Home scheme started in Invercargill just under a fortnight ago, with five houses put on the market. Only one house is currently under offer.
Housing New Zealand South Island regional manager Symon Leggett said the department had only approved two potential buyers, but the interest had been "positive".
"Our first Invercargill First Home sale is nearing completion and we will provide further information once the sale is finalised," he said.
There was a lot of paper work prospective buyers needed to fill out before they could even look at the houses.
