Police have found the elderly Alexandra man who had been reported missing overnight.
Russell Young, aged 81, was found in his car at around 11.50am at Jacob's Ladder, in Gabriel's Gully near Lawrence.
It appeared his vehicle had run off the road and down a bank and Mr Young has spent the night in his vehicle.
He was cold and disorientated when found but otherwise unharmed. He was transported to the medical centre at Milton for observation.
Police are full of praise for the public assistance in relation to this matter.
"From information received Police were able to confirm that Mr Young had travelled as far as Owaka and finding his vehicle at Lawrence was as a result of a call from a member of the public," Senior Sergeant Ian Kerrisk, of Alexandra, said.
Mr Young's family have been notified and are travelling to Milton to be with him.
They have expressed their gratitude to members of the public who helped find Mr Young.
