Damp but bright start to festival weekend
'It's time ... to shake off the cold'DEBBIE JAMIESON
Wanaka's annual Wanakafest celebration got off to a wet start last night but the street parade was enough to brighten the lake front.
The stage has already been set for a huge weekend, with organisers hoping the weather will play its part, too.
Throughout the weekend the best of Central Otago food and wine will be showcased at the Lake Wanaka Wine and Food festival at Pembroke Park with live performances by Don McGlashan and Jody Direen on the main stage today.
Key events that returned this year included the Urban Downhill mountain bike race, trolley derby and polar plunge.
Willowridge Wanakafest event organiser Laurel Morrison said it had felt like a long winter.
"It's time for people to shake off the cold and celebrate all that spring has to offer in this beautiful little town."
