Family rivalry will be the centre of attention when Tokanui take on Woodlands in the Battle of the Edge fundraiser tonight at the Gorge Road Community Centre.
Jamie and Andrew Mackintosh, their brother-in-law Dan Cavanagh and former Olympic swimmer Natalie Wiegersma are competing for Woodlands, while Jamie and Andrew's father, Alistair is competing for Tokanui.
Southland Stags captain Jamie Mackintosh said it will be a great night to be involved in. "It should be a fantastic night with both the communities getting together having a bit of fun and fundraising money for such a great cause."
Mackintosh has organised a great piece of memorabilia to be auctioned off on the night.
"Thanks to Cameo Picture Framers and McCallum's Drycleaning a half Tokanui half Woodlands jersey has been framed to commemorate my days playing for Tokanui and Woodlands. It will include photos of me playing at Tokanui and Woodlands along with some facts about my career for Southland, the Highlanders and the All Blacks. I hope one of the clubs gets on board and buys this to display at their clubrooms," he said.
Mackintosh said the money raised from the night was going to great cause.
"Woodlands are going to re-do the netball courts and the rugby changing rooms to continue the development of the clubrooms and make it an inviting place for people to come and watch sport, and I think Tokanui are going to build a skate park."
Event organiser Leanne Cameron, who is part of the Woodlands team competing, said it will be a great night with the evening sold out.
"It will be a night full of fun, we have 10 Woodlands people going up against 10 Tokanui people in a range of challenges," she said.
The proceeds from the night are going to the Woodlands Senior and Junior Rugby Clubs, Woodlands Netball Club, Tokanui Skate Park and the South Catlins Development and Environmental Trust.
The event starts at 7.30pm.
