An elderly couple were "very lucky" last night, after a car ploughed into their home at speed.
A 65-year-old Gore man was driving the car which veered off the road and into the Coutts Rd home about 7.15pm.
Senior Sergeant Richard McPhail, of Gore, said speed appeared to be a factor in the incident, but luckily the couple were not in their kitchen when the car took out their wall.
"It was very lucky situation for the couple at the time, someone was smiling down on them."
The elderly couple were uninjured, but the driver of the car was taken to hospital in Gore.
The car careered of the street, through the fence and the garden and into the couple's kitchen.
Fire, ambulance and police all attended the scene, plus a tow truck which pulled the vehicle from the house.
The commotion drew a crowd of spectators.
