The Southern District Health Board will deliver a "new, high-quality" residential rehabilitation service for clients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injuries.
The board said it was one of three suppliers who have been contracted by ACC to deliver the early intervention treatment.
The new service will begin in April and will cover the period from when clients emerge into consciousness to when they ease back into the community.
The board would deliver a district wide service out of ISIS at Wakari Hospital in Dunedin and would provide intensive rehabilitation that was individually tailored to reflect the changing needs of the patient as they became less dependent on fulltime care, it said.
