Gore has another new police officer on the town beat.

Grant Mawley has joined the Gore team after graduating from police college last month.

Originally from Hawkes Bay and previously employed in the earthworks business, Mr Mawley has moved to Gore from Queenstown.

The 39-year-old had been in the process of joining the police force for five years before being accepted.

He was looking forward to the diversity of the police force, he said.

"The police force attracted me as I would have more time for my family," he said.

He began at the Gore police on Friday and looked forward to the opportunities the rural job had to offer.

"It's a community based town, I think that was the attraction," he said.

Mr Mawley would join fellow newbie, Steve Treloar, on the Gore beat and said although he had a lot to learn he was up to the task.
