Invercargill bargain hunters have camped overnight outside Michael Hill Jewellers to grab a $1 bargain this morning.

Only the first seven people through the door scored a $1 deal but the next lot through could purchase gold or silver items for $9.

There were about 25 people waiting at the doors before 9am.

Invercargill bargain hunters Vivian Hall, Josiah McMullin, Torri Hall, and Te Rauhynga Pikia, 16, waited outside since midnight to make sure they were first in line.

Ms Hall said the group had survived the night in their pyjamas, with blankets and some boxes to sit on.
