Venom owner and creative director Adrian Barclay is looking forward to competing as a finalist in the 2014 L’Oreal Colour Trophy awards.

Venom Hair Salon in Invercargill is a finalist in the 2014 L'Oreal Colour Trophy awards.

Hair craftsmanship and couture fashion was the inspiration behind the 300 competition entries.

Venom was among the 20 finalists selected to compete in the grand final on February 22 at Vector Arena in Auckland, where finalists will recreate their hairdos.

The salon will compete for Salon of the Year and will battle it out against three Auckland salons.

Venom owner and creative director Adrian Barclay said he was proud to be representing Invercargill and wanted to add the coveted title to his award collection. "This is the award we don't have, so to win would be great."

Finalists' photographic entries were chosen for their overall concept bringing together colour, cut, style, makeup, fashion and photography - with a focus on the hair and hair colour.

Mr Barclay said the Venom photo was commercial and he believed the salon had a good shot at winning.

Meanwhile, Mr Barclay was also a finalist for "educator of the year" in the hairdressing industry awards in April, for his contribution to educating the next generation in hairdressing.
